Selling Pastries at the Ithaca Farmers Market
Selling at the Ithaca Farmers Market, in Ithaca, New York, is definitely for early risers. We pack our car with all the utensils, the cooking burners and tables the night before. In the morning we get up before sunrise to carefully pack our freshly baked pastries so they keep that fresh "out-of-the-oven" taste and smell that our customers are waiting for. As soon as our Ithaca Market booth is chosen we all pitch in to set up everything before market opens. Here my daughter helps arrange the Danish and Hungarian pastry in an attractive manner. The early sun makes the pastries glow. Below she serves a customer with a smile.

Veronika's Pastries - a Family Bakery
This bakery in central New York is truly a family affair. We rise early and drive to Ithaca from Homer, New York. My husband gets to market first to set up all the cooking apparatus and benches. Here you can see him with my youngest son helping hungry customers choose their favorite pastry. During the Ithaca Farmers Market season every family member pitches in to prepare the different pastry doughs, mix the fillings, shape the various bakery goods and bake them. But, as you see, that is just the start of the process.

It can get busy quite soon after market opens, so we have to get organized. Our loyal customers from Ithaca, and all over central New York, like to treat themselves to a breakfast crepe before shopping for vegetables and the wonderful art we have at the market. We make both sweet and savory crepes to order, so they are fresh and hot. People line up, give their orders and wait patiently for a wonderful treat. The sweet cheese and chocolate hazelnut crepes are often the first orders of the day.
